CRISIS COMMITTEE

SEVEN DAYS TO THE RIVER RHINE (JCC)

COMMITTEE DESCRIPTION

Start Date: September 28th, 1980

Deep in the trenches of the Cold War, the unthinkable has happened: NATO has enacted a first nuclear strike on the Soviet Union. The world is in chaos.

This committee will take place on the wavelength of this alternate timeline of history, where an escalation between both sides of the Cold War occurs after this initial strike. In response to this attack, the Soviet Union and its allies have enacted the Seven Days to the River Rhine military plan, a massive military offensive the likes of which have not been seen since WWI’s Schlieffen Plan. In this joint crisis committee, delegates will be split into characters of the two perennial rivals: NATO and the Warsaw Pact. They will have the duty to defend their allied countries in Europe and retaliate against the enemy. Is there a need to modify existing military plans? How will their international alliances play into this conflict? If both are lucky, perhaps diplomacy could still be an option to solve this conflict. Nevertheless, the fate of the global system lies in the actions of each delegate.
