No Paz in La Paz: The 2019 Bolivian Political Crisis

November 10th, 2019: Following weeks of protests in Bolivia, the Organization of American States (OAS) publishes a preliminary audit reporting serious irregularities in the country's 2019 general elections, which had granted President Evo Morales a controversial fourth term. Shortly after Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Williams Kaliman publicly suggested that the President resign, Morales stepped down, denouncing the events as a coup d'état, followed by several senior officials of the ruling party, the MAS-IPSP. 

The resulting power vacuum leaves the country fractured by political polarization, social unrest, and competing claims to legitimacy. Political actors must now determine the composition of an interim government and the organization of future elections all while preventing the crisis from escalating further, in order to restore stability and legitimacy to the Plurinational State of Bolivia.
