DISEC: Disarmament and International Security Committee

Topic: Establishing International Standards to Counter the Use of False War Propaganda in Armed Conflicts

In the aftermath of World War II, the world stands at a crossroads, not only in rebuilding nations, but in defining the truth of what was said, seen, and believed. As tensions mount in Southeast Asia, Vietnam becomes a focal point of political messaging and psychological warfare. False war propaganda, used by both colonial powers and emerging nationalist movements, has shaped public perception, fuelled violent uprisings, and influenced foreign intervention. This committee aims to confront the dangers of propaganda and manipulated narratives in times of serious conflict. Delegates will be challenged to navigate the ethical and legal complexities of regulating misinformation, grasp the sociocultural consequences, all the while upholding national sovereignty and freedom of expression. The goal: to prevent future conflicts fueled by falsehoods, because in wartime, the first casualty should never be the truth.
