Our Home on Native Land: The 2026 National Council for Reconciliation

Topic: The Implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Committee’s Calls to Action

Content Warning: This committee will deal with controversial and sensitive issues relating to violence carried out by state and non-state actors, such as police brutality and civil war.  Delegates in this committee are expected to debate any topics in a respectful and diplomatic manner.

Following the implementation of Bill C-29, the Canadian Government has established a non-political and independent council to oversee dialogue and action on Indigenous affairs within Canada. Representing Metis, status and non-status Indian groups and other Indigenous peoples within Canada, the National Council for Reconciliation has been tasked with addressing reconciliation efforts following the deep-set damage committed by policies such as the Indian Act and Residential Schools. Delegates within this committee will be tasked with representing different perspectives and communities while working together to achieve inclusion and reconciliation within Canadian policy and community. This committee will have the chance to take charge and address deep-seated social issues within Canada, and put forth thoughtful and impactful solutions to rectify Canada’s colonial past, the first step in the much-needed path towards truth and reconciliation.
